Pittsburgh Teen Receives Miracle Liver Donation

(NEW YORK) -- The prayers of thousands of strangers who have been keeping track of Pittsburgh teen Adam Snow on Facebook and Twitter have been answered: He received a miracle, last-minute liver transplant today.

Adam was a normal high school freshman who went to the doctor a few weeks ago with flu-like symptoms, after playing football and hunting the two days before telling his parents he didn’t feel well. Doctors diagnosed him with acute liver failure and placed him at the top of the donor list, according to WTAE-TV, ABC’s Pittsburgh affiliate.

“This little boy has gone through so much,” his mother, Linda Snow, told WTAE in an earlier interview. “He doesn’t deserve to be where he’s at. If there’s anything we could have done, we would. We just need somebody to help us.”

She told the station that if he didn’t get a liver within the next 24 to 36 hours, he wouldn’t survive.

But with hours to spare, a donor came through. Adam underwent transplant surgery at 3 a.m. Saturday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Doctors finished at noon, and he was heavily sedated.

“We can’t thank the donor enough,” Adam’s father, Skip Snow, told WTAE. “It was the gift of life, and we’re just overwhelmed by it.”

Adam could remain hospitalized for three weeks, but he should make a full recovery.

However, the teen now has a blood clot in his brain that needs to be removed, according to “Praying for Adam,” a Facebook group set up Friday that already has more than 5,000 likes.

“Keep praying,” the post reads.
