Report: NSA Taps into Smartphones Too

Hemera/Thinkstock(BERLIN) -- A German magazine says it obtained internal documents alleging data from iPhones, BlackBerry and Android devices can be accessed by the National Security Agency.

Der Spiegel claims the NSA is able to snoop into smartphone users' contacts, call lists, SMS traffic, notes and location data.

Americans already upset by previous accusations of mass surveillance by the U.S. intelligence community shouldn't worry too much about this revelation if the report is accurate.

According to Der Spiegel, the NSA is only spying on specific individuals who are presumably threats to national security.

The article didn't reveal the source of the documents although one of the writers is Laura Poitras, an American filmmaker with close contacts to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
