(JACKSON HOLE, Wyo.) -- A snowboarder in Jackson Hole died on Thursday when he was buried by an avalanche.
According to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, the snowboarder had been in backcountry terrain near the resort. Many witnessed the accident and the man was quickly uncovered. Officials say he was declared dead at the scene.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reports that an average of 28 people die in avalanches every year in the U.S.
