Sterling's Wife Accuses NBA of Sexism

Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- The wife of banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is accusing the NBA of sexism for potentially not allowing her to hold onto her 50 percent of the team.

In an interview on NBC's Today Tuesday, Shelly Sterling said she'll fight to retain her half-ownership of the Clippers if the league's owners decide that her spouse must sell the team due to racist statements he made that were recorded by a female assistant.

The NBA says that if happens, Shelly Sterling will also be forced to relinquish her stake in the Clippers.

However, she told Today that the NBA's reaction is sexist, hypothesizing that if an NBA's owner's wife made racist comments, the league wouldn't force him to sell the team, contending, "Well, she’s only the wife."

Shelly Sterling also repeated her assertion, first made to ABC News' Barbara Walters, that her husband's questionable statements about African-Americans and former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson may be the result of dementia.

In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, Donald Sterling both apologized for his comments but also ripped into Johnson, saying, "He acts so holy. He made love to every girl in every city in America, and he had AIDS, and when he had those AIDS, I went to my synagogue and I prayed for him, I hope he could live and be well. I didn't criticize him. I could have. Is he an example for children?"

Responding to those comments, Shelly Sterling said, "Why would he bring Magic Johnson into the issue about what’s happening now? That’s where I felt pity because he couldn’t get all the dots together. He couldn’t connect the dots."

The NBA has apologized to Johnson for Donald's Sterling's latest tirade as the process to force him to sell the Clippers continues.
