CDC Official Accused of Child Molesting, Bestiality

Jupiterimages/Thinkstock(ATLANTA) -- An official from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been arrested for allegedly molesting a child and bestiality, according to police in DeKalb County, Ga.

Kimberly Lindsey, 44, a deputy director at the CDC, is charged with child molestation and bestiality for two incidences involving a 6-year-old child. Lindsey's live-in boyfriend, Thomas Westerman, 42, is also being charged with child molestation.

The pair is accused of involving the child in their sex acts, including allowing the boy to spank Lindsey's nude buttocks and letting him use an electric sex toy on her, according to warrants issued for their arrests.

Lindsey is also accused of performing sexual acts with two pets.

Police said they found evidence in the home during a search that led to the issuance of the warrants, though they would not comment on the nature of the alleged evidence.

The pair turned themselves in on Sunday after they learned warrants had been issued for their arrests, police told ABC affiliate WSB-TV.

Officers said a medical professional treating the victim alerted police. The incidences are alleged to have occurred in January of 2010 and August of 2011.

Lindsey is a deputy director for the Laboratory Science Policy and Practice Program Office at the CDC, where she oversees $1.5 billion in funds that are disbursed across the agency for emergency response funding. She is listed as "Top Leadership" on the organization's website, which also says she has worked extensively with bioterrorism prevention, HIV/AIDS prevention, and laboratory testing.

The website says she got her PhD from Emory and undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida.

Lindsey was released on $20,000 bond and Westerman was released on $15,000 bond. Neither Lindsey nor Westerman could immediately be reached Tuesday.

The CDC had no comment other than to say its policy is to let situations like this play out in the criminal justice system.

Calif. Youth Pastor Arrested for Alleged Sex Crimes, More Victims Suspected

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department(LOS ANGELES) -- A 28-year-old youth pastor in California has been arrested for alleged sex crimes against young girls in his congregation and for possession of child pornography.

Police said they have confirmed one victim, a 15-year-old girl with whom Demetrius Allen allegedly had a sexual relationship for over a year. But police said they have reason to believe that there may be additional victims due to Allen's "access to different youths," Detective Teresa Pikor of the Los Angeles Police Department told ABC News.

"Even though we have filed criminal charges, we're still investigating and still looking at other avenues and other evidence that we have to identify additional victims," said Detective Michael Brox of the Los Angeles Police Department at a news conference Thursday.

Allen was arrested on Aug. 3 following an "extensive investigation," according to police. He met the victim in the youth group and engaged in an illegal sexual relationship with her that lasted 14 months, police said.

Police said Allen molested the teenager in his Grenada Hills home, according to ABC's Los Angeles affiliate, KABC. Allen is married and has children.

Allen was an assistant youth pastor at the First Baptist Church of Venice. The church did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

"I guess there's fondness that takes place, and, basically, in this point, he took advantage of that," Brox said. "And it was the type of relationship that is inappropriate, which is illegal, which is criminal."

Allen has been charged with 10 counts of child molestation, one count of contacting a minor for sexual offense and one count of possession of child pornography.

Police say other kids were talking about the relationship through social media, but would not elaborate. Pikor said that the girl's family reported the situation to police.

"Anytime that a person actually targets youth and you're an adult, I consider that a predator," Brox said.

Allen is being held on $1 million bail and police are asking that anyone with information on the case or unreported cases call the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paraplegic Francis Hebert Charged with Assaulting Alleged Child Molester

Jupiterimages/Thinkstock(BOSTON) -- A paraplegic from Massachusetts may be facing 10 years in prison for hitting a man with a bat after the man laughingly admitted molesting his three-year-old granddaughter, according to a police report.

Francis Hebert, 57, of Martha's Vineyard was charged with a felony assault charge by Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe for the incident that happened Feb. 22. The accused molester was also charged by police for allegedly molesting two young Massachusetts girls.

"I'd do it again tomorrow, knowing the consequence," Hebert told the Boston Herald. "I didn't have a choice. A 10-year-old kid could take me. This is not about me. This is about a tiny child."

Hebert and his common-law wife learned about the alleged abuse from their three-year-old granddaughter, who said her stepfather, Joshua A. Hardy, had abused her and had taken naked photos of her with his cellphone camera.

Hebert called police Feb. 22 to tell them about the allegations and to tell them they would be able to find Hardy at Hebert's Vineyard Haven, Mass., computer store that afternoon. Hardy was planning to stop by to pick up the girl.

Police warned Hebert not to confront Hardy. According to a police report by Trooper Robert Branca, "Hebert assured me that he would not touch him. However, he did state he wanted to confront him."

Hebert brought a baseball bat with him and when Hardy arrived, Hebert confronted him about the girl's accusation. When Hardy allegedly admitted to the abuse, an enraged Hebert swung the Louisville Slugger and slammed Hardy on the arm, according to Branca's report.

Hebert faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which could result in a 10-year sentence if he's convicted. Branca said he confiscated the Louisville Slugger as evidence.

Ten years ago, a car accident left Hebert unable to use his legs. He relies on an electric wheelchair to get around. Hebert is not the biological grandfather of the girl. She is the granddaughter of his wife and he has helped raise her.

Hardy, 27, is being held at the Plymouth County House of Correction on $125,000 cash bail. He was arraigned Feb. 23 on three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, one count of enticing a child and one count of disseminating obscene material.

In March, Hardy was charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14  relating to a separate case involving another girl.

Castration Cuts Pedophile's Prison Stay

Dick Luria/Photodisc(BATON ROUGE, La.) -- A 78-year-old convicted child molester will be released from prison this week, only after he underwent a court-ordered surgical castration.

Francis Tullier pled guilty to more than 500 counts of child molestation in 1999 for molesting six young girls in the 1970s and 1980s.

As a condition of a plea deal given to Tullier at sentencing, he agreed to undergo surgical castration. The surgery was to be performed within six months of his incarceration, but Tullier fell ill and only recently had the operation.

Only two states in the U.S. -- Louisiana and Texas -- allow for the surgical castration of sex offenders. Seven states, however, have provisions that allow for their chemical castration.
