Photo by Todd Williamson/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Prince William and Catherine Middleton touched down in Los Angeles Friday for a whirlwind weekend visit following their eight-day tour of Canada.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived this afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport, where they descended steps from their airplane and were greeted on the tarmac by a line of dignitaries including California Gov. Jerry Brown and his wife Anne Gust, and British Ambassador Sir Nigel Elton Sheinwald.

Middleton wore a blue-grey drape dress, and Prince William wore a dark suit and tie.

After shaking hands and chatting briefly with the dignitaries, the royal couple got into a dark Range Rover with European-style plates and headed off in their motorcade onto the highways of Los Angeles.

Even before they landed Friday afternoon royal fever had already struck Hollywood.

In anticipation of the crush of media and onlookers, police closed the street outside the British Consulate-General residence in Hancock Park, where the royal couple are staying during their visit.

Neighbors have also signed keep-away orders, giving police permission to arrest any paparazzi on the spot if they try to photograph the royals while on private property.

The couple's itinerary calls for them to hit the ground running. The first item on their agenda is an evening business event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel supporting U.K. trade and investment.

Later, they will shake hands with California politicians and other high-profile figures at a reception hosted by British Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay at her Hancock Park residence.

The duke and duchess, on Saturday night, will attend a red carpet, black-tie British Academy of Film and Television Arts dinner at L.A.'s Belasco Theatre.

Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hanks and Jack Black are expected to attend. Other bold-faced names reported by E! Online include Kristin Chenoweth, Ginnifer Goodwin, Dana Delany and Derek Hough from Dancing with the Stars.

Prince William (who's also the president of BAFTA) will give a speech at the gala, which is focused on spotlighting emerging British talent and building partnerships between Hollywood and up-and-coming British actors.

Prince William and Catherine Middleton Head to Los Angeles

Niall Carson - WPA Pool / Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Prince William and Catherine Middleton touch down in Los Angeles Friday for a whirlwind weekend visit following their eight-day tour of Canada. But royal fever has already struck Hollywood.

In anticipation of the crush of media and onlookers, police have closed the street outside the British Consulate-General residence in Hancock Park, where the royal couple will stay during their visit.

Neighbors have also signed keep-away orders, giving police permission to arrest any paparazzi on the spot if they try to photograph the royals while on private property.

"Our primary concern is to protect the rights and privacy of the residents as well as the safety of the royal couple upon their visit here to the United States," LAPD spokeswoman Mitzi Fierro told the Los Angeles Times. "If they trespass on property where we have a signed trespass letter, they will be arrested immediately."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport, where they will be greeted by California Gov. Jerry Brown and his wife Anne Gust and British Ambassador Sir Nigel Elton Sheinwald.

The couple's itinerary calls for them to hit the ground running. The first item on their agenda is an evening business event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel supporting U.K. trade and investment.

Later they will shake hands with California politicians and other high-profile figures at a reception hosted by British Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay at her Hancock Park residence.

The duke and duchess' closest brush to Hollywood royalty will come Saturday night at a red carpet, black-tie British Academy of Film and Television Arts dinner at L.A.'s Belasco Theatre.

Excitement Builds for Will and Kate's Trip to Los Angeles

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(CALGARY, Alberta) -- Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are easily the hottest ticket in North America right now as their nine-day tour of Canada begins to wrap up and the royal couple set their sights on a long weekend in California.

William will play in a charity-fundraising polo match at a Santa Barbara club Saturday and later the two will be guests of honor at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts dinner in Los Angeles.

"I've had a lot of personal people call and be my best friend," said Nigel Lythgoe, chairman of the academy's Los Angeles chapter. "I've had to explain how it works, there's no tickets."

On Sunday, the royal couple is expected to attend an event for the conservation of African wildlife, visit an inner-city arts program and then a job fair.

Every A-list star is hoping to get a golden ticket to one of two receptions celebrating William and Kate's arrival so they can meet the duke and duchess. Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman and Tom Hanks are reportedly among the Hollywood elite invited to the celebrations for William and Kate.

Onlookers watched them in awe Wednesday as the newlyweds spent what was supposed to be a day off, lifting spirits in the fire-ravaged town of Slave Lake in Alberta, Canada.

Even though the northern community was not on the official itinerary, the royal couple hoped to bring smiles to a town where more than 400 homes and businesses were lost to a forest fire in May.

William and Kate did get some quiet time during their whirlwind tour Tuesday at Eagle Lake -- often called Honeymoon Lake -- to watch the midnight sunset. Thursday marks the seventh day of the pair's nine-day trip to Canada -- the visit is part of the first official overseas trip for the two, who married in April.

Wednesday night they reportedly spent another evening alone, this time at picturesque Lake Louise.
In Calgary, where William and Kate are expected to arrive later Thursday, people clamored to win a lottery. They waited in line to be among the lucky few to catch a glimpse of the couple.

This Kate Middleton Isn't 'Attracted to Prince William at All'

Jupiterimages/Thinkstock(CONCORD, Mass.) -- Kate Middleton wants everyone to know that she's not being fitted for a wedding dress, or going to any rehearsal dinner. Indeed, she isn't getting married at all.

No, Kate Middleton of Concord, Mass., isn't getting married April 29. Instead, she'll be going to her regular day job selling bikes and hosting spin classes at Ata Cycle west of Boston. The other Kate Middleton is still fully expected to go through with her fairy tale wedding to Prince William.

The Massachusetts Middleton discovered six years ago that she shared a name with another -- more famous -- Kate when she applied for a job. "I got a call back and the person said I didn't know you dated Prince William. I said I didn't know that either," said Middleton, who promptly googled her name and read a slew of articles about Kate Middleton's romance with Prince William.

Things died down for a few years and the Boston-area Middleton largely forgot about the British one until the Royal couple announced their engagement in November. "After that it really snowballed," Middleton said. "I got all these followers on my Twitter account @ATaCycleK8. My co-workers have started to tell people I've gone out for tea if people ask for me at the cycle shop. And my new nickname is Spinderella."

The whole thing become a little tiresome recently when Facebook shut down her account because they accused her of using a false name. The social media company also removed all the photos tagged with her name. "They kind of erased me a bit so I had to tell them I have no affiliation with that lady in England but my legal name really is Kate Middleton," she said.

After some back and forth with Facebook, her account is now back up and running so she can continue to post photos of her dogs online. And her friends have encouraged her to use the notoriety in a positive way.

To that end, Middleton has signed up for a 175-mile charity bike ride from Boston to Provincetown to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research. Her goal is to raise $10,000 and, if she does, Middleton promises to ride the whole way in a wedding dress in tandem with a Prince William look-alike.

And, for the record, no, there is no Prince William or Prince Charming in her life. And, yes, she is looking. "Of course, I have aspirations to meet my Prince Charming," Middleton said, "but I'm not attracted to Prince William at all."

Scheduling Conflict Pushes Shuttle Launch to Royal Wedding Date

BRUCE WEAVER/AFP/Getty Images(HOUSTON) -- Astronaut Mark Kelly and his wife, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, have never met Prince William and his bride, Kate Middleton, but they may well meet in the headlines on April 29. A delay by NASA means the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour, commanded by Capt. Kelly, is now scheduled for the same day as the royal wedding.

NASA realized over the weekend that it faced a traffic jam, even in the void of space 200 miles above the Earth's surface. The shuttle launch -- already pushed back from February -- had been set for April 19, but NASA managers decided after a Sunday meeting not to try.

On April 27, the Russians are scheduled to launch a Progress supply ship to the space station, and on Sunday they told their American counterparts they could not delay it. Some of its cargo is perishable.

If Endeavour had tried to launch on the 19th, and delayed just a few days, it might still have been docked to the station when the Russian Progress ship arrived. NASA has rules about having a remote-controlled cargo ship dock with the station while a space shuttle is also there, so rather than press their luck, they decided to wait 10 days.

For anyone following both events, there will be breathing room between them. The wedding ceremony begins at 11 a.m. London time (6 a.m. in Florida), and the launch is scheduled for 3:47 p.m. EDT (8:47 p.m. London time).

Of course, the shuttle launch is getting extra attention because Kelly almost had to give up his chance to fly because of the injuries to his wife, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who suffered a brain injury in the January shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Kelly decided, after several weeks of uncertainty, that she was recovering well enough that he could command the mission.
