(ACADIA PARISH, La.) -- Three people were killed and two others hurt when their skydiving plane crashed in Crowley, in Louisiana's Acadia Parish.
It happened Saturday about 2:30 p.m. at LeGros Memorial Airport right after the Cessna 182 took off with four jumpers and a pilot on board. Witnesses say the group had made at least one jump already that day.
The crash happened when the plane apparently lost power about 200 feet off the ground. When it hit the ground, the aircraft burst into flames. Aircraft accident investigations can take weeks or months to determine a cause, so it will be some time before authorities know why it happened.
The three victims died at the scene. One of the injured was released from the hospital Saturday evening. The second spent the night in the hospital.
