(NEW YORK) -- After a year-long investigation, authorities have arrested a man described as a "lone wolf" terrorist in New York City.
On Sunday, state authorities arrested muslim convert Jose Pimentel, a Bronx resident who lived with his mother, and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon and terrorism charges. Pimentel allegedly had the materials to make a bomb when arrested, according the criminal complaint.
Pimentel spent much of his time on the internet visiting the radical website TrueIslam1, sources tell ABC News. Though the apparent "lone wolf" did not attend mosque regularly and has no known connections to any other radicalized individuals or foreign terrorists, Pimentel first came to the attention of investigators two years ago, kicking off an investigation that would last more than a year.
Investigators have reviewed audio and video recordings of the defendant discussing plans to build a bomb and use it to assassinate members of the military returning from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, the complaint said.
