Raging Airplane Passenger Duct Taped to Seat

ABC News(NEW YORK) -- The pitfalls of apparently mixing alcohol and air travel were taken to a new level when an evidently intoxicated man was constrained to his seat with duct tape on an international flight.

Iceland Air said the man went on a rampage on a New Year’s Eve flight from Reykjavik to New York, hitting, screaming at and spitting on other passengers.

Passengers took matter into their own hands, taping the man to his seat.

Andy Ellwood, who was on board the flight, snapped a picture of the disruptive passenger and wrote on his blog that the man became unruly after drinking all of the duty-free liquor on board.

“He was restrained by passengers and crew and was monitored for his own safety for the duration of the flight,” Iceland Air said in a statement to ABC News.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken by police to an area hospital where he was treated for alcohol poisoning. Port Authority police wouldn’t confirm that the man in the picture was the person they took into custody, but said he had not been charged.

Baltimore Bus Brawl Between Driver and Juvenile Passenger Caught on Tape

Brand X Pictures/Thinkstock(BALTIMORE) -- A Baltimore bus driver has been suspended following a brawl with a female student who the driver accused of "being disrespectful." The tussle was caught on tape and posted to YouTube.

When the video begins, the female bus driver is standing over the passenger and struggling with her as the teenager kicks and punches the bus driver. When the passenger stands up, the two wrestle their way to the back of the vehicle with the bus driver holding the girl by her arm and by her hair. The two struggled to the back of the bus with the girl throwing several punches at the driver's head and shoulder. The driver eventually pushes the girl into a corner seat.

The driver seems to be shouting, "You want to fight somebody?" The passenger answers, "No."

The passenger can also be heard saying, "Get off of me." Other passengers were shouting, videotaping and some laughter can be heard.

It is unclear what initiated the fight.


When the fighting stopped, the two women had an inaudible tense exchange before the bus driver returned to the front of the bus. "You shouldn't have jumped in my face," the passenger said.

Moments later, the driver can be heard saying, "It wasn't about that. It's about being disrespectful."

The incident occurred on Monday at around 2 p.m. and the video was posted to YouTube on Tuesday. It has been viewed over 106,000 times.

"The bus operator reported that an incident had occurred on her bus and then we got calls from media informing us that it has been posted on YouTube," Maryland Transit Administration spokesman Terry Owens told ABC News. "The report included some details, but I'm not going to discuss the content of that report."

Neither the bus driver nor the passenger have been identified. Owens said the the driver has been with the agency since 2003 and that the passenger involved was a student and a juvenile. He said no one was seriously injured.

The driver has been suspended without pay, pending the results of an investigation, according to Owens.

"We hold the safety of our passengers and employees as our highest priority at the MTA," he said. "Our employees are expected to respect this policy and passengers are expected to abide by the rules and policies of the agency when using our systems."

The incident is being investigated by the Maryland Transit Administration Police.

American Airlines Passenger Defends Ranting Flight Attendant

Hemera/Thinkstock (file photo)(NEW YORK) -- One passenger has defended the flight attendant who lashed out at complaining passengers on a long-delayed flight from New York's LaGuardia Airport, although other passengers say they feared his behavior and worried about flying with him.

Hanna and David Abel were on board American Eagle flight 4607, bound for Raleigh-Durham, N.C., on Monday when flight attendant Jose Serrano told passengers they could leave the plane if "anyone has the balls" to do it, according to cellphone video obtained by the New York Post.

"I don't want to hear anything," Serrano told passengers over the plane's PA system.  Witnesses say Serrano said something about this probably being his last flight.

"The scariest part was that if we did go back in the air with him, what if he just opened the door and let a few passengers out, you know?" said passenger Hanna Abel.

The flight was eventually canceled because the delays were too long and the crew ran out of time to fly legally.

American Airlines issued an email from a first-class passenger defending the flight attendant and blaming the incident on "the most horrible display of passenger aggressiveness" toward Serrano.

The airline also issued an apology, saying, "We do not believe that the passengers' frustrations were always met with the level of service that we expect from our people, and for that we are truly sorry."

The flight was originally scheduled to leave at 1:25 p.m., but passengers were prevented from boarding until nearly 4 p.m. because of rain delays.  The plane was then delayed an additional 40 minutes behind other traffic, and passengers were told the aircraft would return to the gate to be refueled.  Passengers deplaned and reboarded at 6 p.m. but were held again on the tarmac.

That's when passengers began to grumble and Serrano apparently lost him composure.  Police were called onto the plane and removed four passengers along with Serrano.

Passengers said they were worried Serrano might do something rash and compared his behavior to that of a Jet Blue attendant two years ago.

The JetBlue flight attendant, Steven Slater, cursed at passengers in 2010 before exiting the plane down the emergency slide.  Earlier this year, JetBlue pilot Clayton Osbon suffered a mid-air meltdown and had to be restrained by passengers.

Passengers on flight 4607 eventually went to hotels for the night and were able to catch a flight the next day.

Unruly Passenger Forces Emergency Landing in Boston

USAir[dot]com(BOSTON) -- A plane made an emergency landing at Boston’s Logan Airport Thursday after a passenger became unruly and attempted to open a cabin door in flight, ABC News affiliate WCVB reported.

The passenger had to be restrained by other fliers, according to Massport, the agency that runs Logan Airport.

Air Wisconsin flight 3801, flying from Portland, Maine, to Philadelphia and carrying 50 passengers, landed safely.  Air Wisconsin is a regional airline that flies for US Airways.

The crew became concerned with a passenger’s behavior and ordered the landing in Boston. The passenger may have been suffering from a medical issue.

The passengers were not in danger of the cabin door opening during the flight. After a rash of unruly passenger behavior in 2011, an American Airlines spokesperson told USA Today, “It’s not possible to open an aircraft door in-flight.”

Quadriplegic Airline Passenger Kicked off Flight

Digital Vision/Thinkstock(DALLAS) -- A quadriplegic man who was not allowed to fly from Dallas to Denver last weekend has received an apology from Frontier Airlines.

However, 24-year-old John Morris says he still feels humiliated and is thinking about taking legal action after the pilot decided it was best for safety reasons to remove Morris from the plane because his seat belt extension couldn't properly restrain him.

Morris, who was injured in a snowboarding accident five years ago, claims the pilot never left the cockpit to assess the situation.  Ultimately, the pilot called airport police, who upon assessing the situation said they shouldn't have been called.

After being booted from the plane along with family members, Morris returned to Colorado aboard a later Frontier flight.

According to the airlines, "a well-intentioned pilot was seeking to do the right thing to ensure the safety and compliance of all involved."  Pilots are generally given wide authority in cases of maintaining the security of passengers and crew members.

The carrier said that once it completes an investigation into the incident, it will share the outcome of the findings with Morris and his family.
