(TAMPA, Fla.) -- About 150 passengers on board a Royal Caribbean cruise ship out of Tampa, Fla., returned to port on Saturday queasy and uneasy. Officials suspect they had norovirus or stomach flu. Three crewmembers were also sick. The ship can carry about 2,500 passengers. The Radiance of the Seas was headed out on a cruise to the Mexican tourist destinations, Cozumel and Puerto Maya when the first illnesses were reported.
Royal Caribbean officials said the unwell passengers responded well to the over-the-counter-medications given on board. For the rest of the passengers, precautions included removing menus and silverware from tables before meals as the germs can be carried on simple surfaces handled by many. Workers spent the day Saturday sanitizing the ship which was scheduled to sail again Saturday night.
