(LUBBOCK, Texas) -- An arrest has been made in Texas of a college student who authorities say was planning a terror attack.
Prosecutors say Khalid Aldawsari had been researching how to build a bomb and had emailed himself information about potential places to use it. Aldawsari is a Saudi National enrolled in school in Lubbock. He wrote in his journal that he'd received a scholarship allowing him direct entry into the United States and enrollment at Texas Tech University.
He was arrested after he bought chemicals and other equipment that he claimed he wanted for school research, according to court records. Prosecutors say he was planning to commit a terror attack, possibly targeting Americans who served with the US military in Iraq.
Federal agents became aware of the 20-year-old Aldawsari, partly through his own blog postings about his desire for jihad, and his own martyrdom in a Muslim holy war.
When a chemical supplier came forward to say that Aldawsari had tried to buy bomb-making components, the FBI moved in.
