Woman Allegedly Drives 600 Miles to Kill Transgender Sibling's Partner

Photo Courtesy - ABC News(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) -- A North Carolina community college instructor is being held on first-degree murder charges after she allegedly drove more than 600 miles from Charlotte to gun down her brother's fiancé in Michigan, police said.

Julie Ann Hopwood, 56, is charged in last week's shooting death of 35-year-old Amy Chebro, whom authorities confirm was engaged to Hopwood's transgender brother, PJ Redbird Tworavens.

"Hopwood was waiting for the victim to show up at work," said Lt. Thomas Goralski of the Livonia, Michigan, Police Department.

Goralski said that Chebro was shot five times just after 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 16 in the parking lot of a business in town. She was apprehended a short time later by police.

Goralski declined to comment on any possible motive for the shooting, but said reports that Hopwood was unhappy about Tworavens' decision to become a man were "untrue."

Hopwood had been a teacher since 2003 at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to ABC News' affiliate WSOC. Hopwood taught respiratory therapy and psychology.

It was not immediately clear if Hopwood has retained a lawyer.

Mom of Four Kids Disappears After Holiday Party

Photo Courtesy - ABC News/WLS-TV Chicago(CHICAGO) -- Footprints in a snowbank are the only clues for officers searching for a Chicago woman who vanished after walking away from a late night car crash that left her husband dead in the driver's seat. A massive manhunt is underway for Tanya Shannon, a 40-year-old mother of four, who has been missing since early Sunday morning when authorities from the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office located her crashed car on the side of a rural road. In the driver's seat of the car was Shannon's dead husband, 41-year-old Dale Shannon, according to Sheriff Tom Templeton.

"She and her husband were at a company Christmas party Saturday night. They left the party heading to a family's house and on the way had a traffic-related accident in which Mr. Shannon was killed," Templeton told ABC News. "From the evidence that we've seen, Shannon was able to get out of the vehicle and go up to the roadway."

"From there we have no idea where she went," he said, adding that while alcohol was available at the party it does appear that the car crash was an accident. Further toxicology reports are being ordered, he said.

Footprints from a "slipper-like" shoe were found leading away from the car and up to the road, said Templeton, and one of the slippers was also located by the first responders. Inside the car, a pair of high-heeled shoes was also found.

Shannon is five-feet, two inches tall and weighs 125 pounds, has shoulder length strawberry blond hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a red dress and a gray fleece hooded jacket. She also wears glasses.

Murder Mystery: Mother, Three Kids Killed in Florida Home

Photo Courtesy - WTXL Tallahassee, Fla.(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) -- Police are desperately trying to unravel the horrible mystery of who killed a mother and her three young children in their Florida home.

Autopsies were being performed Sunday on the woman, her 6-year-old twin daughters and her 3-year-old son, who were found Saturday morning after a neighbor called the police.

Police have not identified the four victims, who lived in a recently built quiet subdivision near Florida State University and Florida A&M University. The woman and her children lived alone in the house, so police are talking to their relatives and friends to learn what they can and find out if there was anyone who might have wanted to hurt them.

Neighbors who gathered Saturday were in shock, watching police going in and out of the house with bags of evidence, as the children's bicycles lay in the open garage.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the family to call the Tallahassee Police Department at 850-891-4200.

Josefina Prospero, 48, of Bolingbrook, Ill. and her husband Juan Nicolas Bernal, were asleep at 2:30 a.m. Saturday when the 2002 Chevrolet SUV crashed through their window. Prospero was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bernal suffered minor cuts and bruises, and was able to make a statement at the police department.
