US Airways Flight Turns Around After Bird Strike

Tim Boyle/Bloomberg via Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- A plane from Washington, D.C., to New York was forced to turn around Thursday because of a bird strike.

US Airways flight 2164 experienced the problem after taking off from Reagan National Airport at about 9 a.m. It returned safely to Reagan a short time later.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that the pilots of the Airbus A319 declared an emergency on takeoff and landed safely without incident.

An airline spokesperson said the flight was carrying 94 passengers and five crew members at the time.
