Yosemite Fire Threatens Important Reservoir

Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(GROVELAND, Calif.) -- The large fire just outside of Yosemite National Park has consumed nearly 225 square miles of forest and is just 15 percent contained.

Winds have pushed the flames closer to a very important reservoir over the last two days. Teams within the park are working to protect the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, which provides 85 percent of San Francisco's water.

On Monday morning containment figures were bumped up to 15 percent from seven percent.

The governor of California declared a state of emergency on Sunday and told public utility crews to be prepared to monitor the water quality. In Reno, Nev., the air has reportedly been clear for the first time in three days.
