Mass. Attorney General Raises Concerns Over New Connecticut Electricity Tax

(BOSTON) -- The Attorney General's office is concerned that a new tax produced by Connecticut power plants could affect electricity rates in New England.

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley says that due to the so-called "nuclear tax" on electricity in Connecticut, rates are expected to rise in an effort to recover some of the lost revenue. Coakley is concerned that if Connecticut hikes its electricity rates, costs will increase through Massachusetts as a result.

A state official in Connecticut says the governor is looking into the situation but does not believe the nuclear tax will affect residents in other states.

Romney to Unveil Health Plan in Michigan

(DETROIT) -- Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is expected to announce his new health care plan in Michigan on Thursday. Romney is viewed as a strong candidate for the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

President Obama used the health care plan that Romney implemented in 2006 as governor of Massachusetts, as the basis for his Affordable Care Act, passed last year. To distance himself from Obama’s plan, Romney wrote an article in USA Today on Wednesday and will speak about his plan on Thursday.

“My plan is to harness the power of markets to drive positive change in health insurance and health care. And we can do so with state flexibility (unlike ObamaCare's top-down federal approach), no new taxes (as opposed to hundreds of billions of dollars of new taxes under ObamaCare), and better consumer choice (as opposed to bureaucratic, government choice under ObamaCare). This change of direction offers our best hope of preserving both innovation and value, " said Romney.

Massachusetts Man Convicted of Trying to Have Sex with Minor

(HARTFORD, Conn.) -- A jury in Hartford has found a 40-year-old Massachusetts man guilty on a pair of child sex crime charges, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Eugene C. Boisvert of Springfield, Mass. was convicted Wednesday of one count of using the Internet to attempt to persuade a minor to engage in sexual activity, and one count of interstate travel to attempt to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

According to court documents, Boisvert engaged in close to 40 conversations online with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old girl between June 26 and Aug. 6, 2010. The person he believed he was conversing with turned out to be an officer from Milford, Conn. working with a special computer crimes task force. The evidence, according to officials, showed that Boisvert knew it would be illegal for him to engage in such activity with a minor.

Authorities arrested Boisvert Aug. 6 when he traveled across state lines to Connecticut to meet with who he thought was the girl. He faces up to 40 years in prison for Internet enticement and up to 30 years on the interstate travel count.
