Officials: Detected Levels of Radiation Don't Pose Health Risk

(BOSTON) -- State health officials say radiation from the Japanese nuclear reactors has shown up in rain in Massachusetts, but not at levels that would pose a risk to people's health.

Officials say Massachusetts is the latest state in the U.S. to have detected elevated levels of radiation in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan and has damaged its nuclear power plant.

The radiation was detected in rainwater earlier this week, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Health officials say that although drinking water will be monitored closely, the public has nothing to worry about.
