Two RI Teens Arrested in Westport After Fleeing Police in Stolen Car

(WESTPORT, Mass.) -- Two Rhode Island teens driving a stolen car lead police through three towns before they were arrested after crashing into a highway sign, The Standard-Times reports.

The suspects, River M. Ahlquist and Earl S. Dandy, both 18, were in a Honda Civic shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday, which had been stolen from Newport, R.I. When the pair wouldn't pull over for police, they fled and were eventually stopped after getting a flat tire and being unable to turn onto Route 88 southbound.

Both are being charged with receiving stolen property of $250. Ahlquist, who was driving during the chase, is also being charged with refusal to stop for a police officer, operating to endanger and being an unlicensed operator.

They were taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River for treatment.

Two ‘Foreign Nationals’ Arrested in Wake of Boston Bombings

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) --  On Saturday, federal agents arrested two foreign citizens at a New Bedford apartment complex where suspected Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is said to have once lived, according to The Standard-Times.

The two men were arrested on Saturday afternoon when agents raided the Hidden Brook apartment complex. This came shortly after three men who had been detained earlier were released.

A neighbor said that the arrested men were two of the same three men who had already been detained and released, but officials would not confirm this.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesman was tight-lipped on the arrests, and would not tell The Standard-Times anything more than that they were arrested for "administrative immigration violations."

No connection with the bombings or Tsarnaev was confirmed.

Veterinarian Surrenders License After Repeated Complaints

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) -- A veterinarian accused of failing to properly keep records, perform surgical procedures and sterilize tools permanently surrendered his license to practice.

According to the Standard-Times, Adam Magdy, the owner of Buttonwood Pet Hospital and Bird Clinic, gave up his license after an investigation into a number of complaints between 2011 and 2012.

The first complaint, according to the Standard-Times, was for failure to correctly diagnose a pair of animals in November 2011. He was later accused of improper record keeping, surgical procedures and sterilization in December 2012.

The investigation uncovered expired medication as well as controlled substances that were improperly stored or logged.

According to the Standard-Times, Magdy had been on probation due to a separate complain.

State May Take Over Failing Parker School

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) -- Due to low test scores and marginal student progress, the state is considering taking over Parker School, according to The Standard-Times.

The elementary school was named a poorly performing level 4 school in 2010. A spokesman for Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester said that Parker has not made the required progress to improve its standing.

The school is in its third and final year to improve its standing. Should it become a level 5 school, the state will appoint a receiver to run the school.

The 2013 MCAS testing results will be released in September, and will be a major factor in deciding if the school will be taken over.

BK Man Accused of Shooting in Harlem Arrested in New Bedford

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass,) -- A Brooklyn man was arrested on Tuesday in Bedford in connection with a shooting in Harlem over the weekend, The Standard-Times reports.

Jose Cintron, 44, was found by New Bedford police and officers from the New York Police Department's Violent Fugitive Squad hiding under a bed in the apartment of a woman he had been staying with at the Bay Village Housing Development.

He was arrested without incident, and police found 210 grams of heroin on him, along with two rounds of .25-caliber ammunition.

The NYPD had information that Cintron had been involved in a non-fatal shooting in Harlem the previous weekend, and had reason to believe he had fled to New Bedford.

Cintron was charged with heroin trafficking, unlawful possession of ammunition and for being a fugitive for justice.
