Atheist Cranston Student Raises Controversy In Woonsocket

(WOONSOCKET, R.I.) -- The atheist student from Cranston who made news after requesting that a religious prayer banner be removed in her hometown is now focusing her attention on getting rid of a religious veterans memorial in Woonsocket, ABC News New Bedford affiliate WLNE-TV reports.

High school student Jessica Ahlquist used Twitter to vocalize her opposition Tuesday to the memorial that’s topped with a cross.

"This should settle some of the confusion around the Woonsocket cross memorial controversy. I now support its removal,” Ahlquist said on Twitter.

No lawsuit has been involved in the Woonsocket case.

Supporters of the memorial have raised more than $15,000 in case of a potential legal battle.
