New Bedford Man Charged with Attacking Relative with Sword
(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) -- A New Bedford man was arrested over the weekend after police said he attacked a relative with a three-foot-long sword.
The incident reportedly happened early Saturday morning at a residence on Earle Street in New Bedford. Police said a female relative went to speak with 21-year-old Brandon Almeida at his apartment, when at some point Almeida became violent and began swinging the sword at the woman. The victim was cut on the thigh, hand and thumb and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Almeida was later taken into custody and faces a list of charges including assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, armed assault with intent to commit murder and unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon.
