Officer Narrowly Escapes Being Struck by Alleged Drunk Driver

(BURRILLVILLE, R.I.) -- A police officer in Burrillville narrowly avoided being struck by a vehicle on Sunday that was driven by an alleged drunk driver.

The incident reportedly happened early Sunday morning on Route 102 near Broncos Crossing. Officials said two officers were outside of their parked cruisers assisting a motorist when another vehicle came close to striking one of the officers. Published reports stated that one officer called out to the other officer to get out of the way of the oncoming vehicle.

The officers were able to catch up with the vehicle, which sped off after the near collision, and arrest driver Christopher Gaynor for DUI. Gaynor refused to submit to a chemical test.
