Wheelchair-Bound Father Killed in South Kingstown House Fire

(SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.) -- A fire in South Kingstown over the weekend, has claimed the life of a wheelchair-bound man.

The fire reportedly broke out around 6 p.m. Saturday at a house located on Post Road, trapping a man in a wheelchair and his teenage son inside. Officials said the teen tried to get his father out of the burning structure, but was unsuccessful. By the time fire crews arrived at the scene it was too late to save the man.

In working to extinguish the blaze, firefighters had to get around the challenge of no hydrants in the area of the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated
