Four CT Students Participating in National Spelling Bee

(NEW LONDON, Conn.) -- Four Connecticut students are participating in the National Spelling Bee taking place in Washington D.C., ABC News New London affiliate WTHN-TV reports.

Rahul Malayappan , 12, an eighth grader at Broadview Middle School in Danbury; Kitty Shortt , 11, a fifth grader at Abraham Pierson Elementary School in Clinton; Lily Wang , 10, a fifth grader at Oakdale Elementary School in Oakdale; and Sairah Sheikh, 11, a sixth grader at Timothy Edwards Middle School in South Windsor, are all participating in the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The spelling bee began Tuesday and will go into the semifinals round on Thursday morning. There are 278 participants in 2012’s competition.
