Police Shoot Pit Bull Attacking Woman's Dog
(NEW HAVEN, Conn.) Police shot and killed a pit bull that attacked a woman's dog Sunday morning, ABC affiliate WTNH reports.
Sally Broadstreet was sitting with her 12-year-old Collie mix Max when the stray pit bull approached and began attacking her dog. She said she tried stopping the pit bull with her cane, but that was unsuccessful.
People who witnessed the attack tried helping and others called the police. When they arrived, they asked bystanders to move back before firing several shots that killed the pit bull. The attack and shooting occurred on Sherman Ave. near Chapel Street around 10:30 a.m.
Max had already died.
New Haven police are looking for the owner of the pit bull, which had no identifying tags. An internal investigation will also be conducted, since the officers fired their weapons.
