August Declared Child Support Awareness Month in NY

(ALBANY, N.Y.) -- August has been declared Child Support Awareness Month in New York State.

This was announced on Tuesday by Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state's Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), following the issuing of a proclamation by the governor.

"Child support is important for the economic stability of these families, and is especially crucial to those in low-income areas," Cuomo said in a statement. "We are dedicated to protecting the rights of vulnerable children in New York State by holding individuals accountable."

In 2011, a record amount of over $1.8 billion in child support was collected in New York, according to a release from the governor's office.
