Gillibrand Pushing for Bill to Resolve Drug Shortages

(NEW YORK) -- Sen. Gillibrand is pushing a bill that would help the Food and Drug Administration resolve the issue of drug shortages, The New York Daily News reports.
The senator said on Sunday that there is currently a deficiency of 14 cancer medications, nine of which are used to treat cancer in children.
“It’s simply unacceptable that children already suffering from serious diseases don’t know whether the medications that they need to treat their illnesses will be available,” she said to a group of reporters.
Under the bill, drug companies would be required to notify the FDA six months before an expected shortage. The Senate is also debating an amendment that would fine companies who fail to comply.
