Gillibrand Seeks to Better Equip First Responders
(WASHINGTON) -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) is taking steps to try to assist first responders across New York State to secure the tools and resources they need to properly carry out their duties.
With police and fire departments dealing with tighter budgets, on Tuesday the senator announced that she will be undertaking efforts such as working to fund the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s budget that supports local authorities; and by hosting workshops across the state help educate local first responder organizations on how to secure the funding they need.
"Our first responders put their lives on the line day in and day out to keep us safe," Senator Gillibrand said in a statement. "We need to make sure that when they’re going into harm’s way, they have the right tools for the job to respond to emergencies, keep themselves safe, and protect our families."
