Judge Increases Bail For West Village Rape Suspect

(NEW YORK) -- A Manhattan judge has increased the bail for a man suspected a raping a woman in West Village from $300,000 to $500,000, according to the New York Post.

Ivan Ramos, 22, is accused of taking advantage of a drunken 29-year-old woman who had lost her cash and cellphone.  The victim asked Ramos to take her to an ATM machine and then to a police precinct, but Ramos allegedly took her to a stairwell instead and raped her.  Prosecutors argued to raise Ramos' bail, and the judge agreed.

Ramos is a career criminal who has been arrested more than 20 times in the past five years, according to the report.
