New Yorker Killed by Enemy Forces in Afghanistan

(WASHINGTON) -- A New York man has been killed while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, the Department of Defense announced Sunday.

Military officials said Pfc. Theodore M. Glende, 23, of Rochester, N.Y., died on Friday in Kharwar, Logar province, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained when his unit was attacked by small-arms fire from enemy forces.

Glende was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy.
