State Police Kick Off 'Buckle Up New York' Campaign

(ALBANY, N.Y.) -- Monday marks the start of a two-week campaign by New York State Police to crack down on drivers and passengers across the state who fail to use seatbelts.

The campaign, titled "Buckle Up New York," runs through June 3 and will see State Police teaming up with around 400 local law enforcement units statewide to enforce the state's seatbelt law.

"The evidence is clear – seatbelts save lives," Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a statement. "New York State has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to enforcing this life-saving rule. It only takes a few seconds to fasten a seatbelt or to secure a child's safety seat, and this campaign encourages all New Yorkers to take a moment to buckle up and save a life."
