Governor Chris Christie selected fellow Republican New Jersey Attorney General Jeff Chiesa to temporarily fill the seat held by Lautenberg.

“I'll use my best judgment and the skill that I have to conduct myself in a way that I hope will make everybody in New Jersey proud,” Chiesa said Thursday.

With a special election looming this fall, Chiesa is a placeholder. Christie said Chiesa would not run to fill out the rest of the term.
