David Axelrod Responds to Black Caucus Obama Denouncement

ABC News(WASHINGTON) -- Republicans may have a critical eye on President Obama, but so do politicians who were once some of his biggest supporters. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus recently denounced the president for not having a clear plan for battling unemployment. White House Senior Advisor David Axelrod disagrees.

Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Axelrod says President Obama has done a lot for those who need the help the most.

"He fought hard in the debt ceiling negotiations to make sure that those safety nets, ah, Medicaid and Pell grants for poor students of all backgrounds were protected," Axelrod said.

He added that even liberals who are more critical of Obama than they were in 2008 will see that his message is more solid than Republicans'.

"The same mantra we heard in the last decade that led up to this problem we're hearing again. I think this is such a profound choice that the President's supporters and independent voters and people across this country will rally."
