(HOUSTON) -- Former first lady Barbara Bush will be released from a Houston hospital on Saturday.
Bush was hospitalized on Monday with a respiratory issue, and will be released privately on Saturday. Her husband, George H.W. Bush was president from 1989 to 1993, during which time she used her prominence as first lady to champion civic and charitable causes, including as an advocate for global literacy.
In a statement, Bush thanked the doctors and nurses at Houston Methodist Hospital for "making sure I got the best treatment and got back to George and our dogs as quickly as possible." Monday is the anniversary of Barbara and George H.W. Bush's marriage.
Bush reportedly exhibited early signs of pneumonia before her hospitalization.
