Former US Ambassador's Obit Requests Donations to Perry's Campaign

Russell Tate/Bill Fritsch/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- Ambassador Peter Terpeluk, Jr., a major Republican donor who helped with presidential candidate Rick Perry’s early fundraising operations, died Tuesday of a heart attack, but even in death, he's still aiding Perry's efforts. In Terpeluk's obituary Wednesday in the Washington Post, he showed his devotion to Perry’s campaign by requesting that, “In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Perry for President 2012.”

Gov. Perry released a statement on Terpeluk’s passing.

“I’m saddened today by the passing of Peter Terpeluk, former Ambassador to Luxembourg under President George W. Bush. Peter was a friend who served his country with distinction in both the public and private sectors in addition to working tirelessly to elect Republicans across the country. Anita and I send our sympathies to his wife Diane and their children Trey and Meredith during this difficult time,” Perry said in a statement.

Terpeluk served as ambassador to Luxembourg from 2002 to 2005 and acted as the finance chairman of the RNC from July 2009 to the end of 2010.  Services for Terpeluk will be held Friday in Washington, D.C.
