(WASHINGTON) -- Here he comes and there he goes, Mr. Former Montgomery, Ill., GOP County Chairman Jim Allen, because of his remarks about a former Miss America, who’s running for Congress.
Allen, who supports Republican U.S. Congressman Rodney Davis of Taylorville, sent out an email to bash Erika Harold, a candidate in next year’s GOP primary.
The comments were hardly genteel as Allen labeled Davis a “little queen” and a “street walker” and compared Democrats and moderate Republicans to “pimps.”
For good measure, Allen stated that the former Miss America was the “love child” of the Democratic Party and that when she loses to Davis in the primary, she will be “working for some law firm that needs to meet their quota for minority hires.” Harold is African-American.
An apology to Harold and her staff didn’t suffice and Allen submitted his resignation Thursday after being called on to quit his post by Illinois Republican Chairman Jack Dorgan, National Republican Chairman Reince Priebus and Congressman Davis.
Harold said Allen’s email was “incredibly dumb.”
Davis, if he does win the primary, is expected to have a tough time in the general election as he only won by 1,000 votes last November out of 273,000 ballots cast.
