Healthcare Website Down for Maintenance Saturday Night

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images (WASHINGTON) -- Americans will not be able to log on to Healthcare.gov from Saturday evening through Sunday morning. The site will be taken down for extended maintenance needed to fix issues that have been ongoing since the website's launch last month.

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Joanne Peters, the team working on the website will perform "extended maintenance this weekend to improve network infrastructure and make enhancements to the online application and enrollment tools." Due to the work being done, certain aspects of the website will be unavailable for about 12 hours -- estimate from 9 p.m. on Saturday through 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Consumers looking to enroll in the healthcare marketplace will still be able to call the call center at 1-800-318-2596 to apply for coverage.
