Major DC Rally in September to Defund "Obamacare"

MLADEN ANTONOV/AFP/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- It's the big event in Washington, D.C. on September 10 and it's not even the Redskins home opener.

The day has been scheduled for the "Exempt America from Obamacare" event as lawmakers return from their long summer recess.

On Oct. 1, individuals can begin enrolling for coverage in the Affordable Care Act, but groups including Tea Party Patriots and ForAmerica hope to do an end-around by discouraging Americans from signing up for the health care plan.

Their ultimate goal is to defund or repeal the law, which House Republicans have tried to do about 40 times since it was signed into law in 2010.

The organizers wrote, "Democrats will stop at nothing to protect the president’s signature legislation, and too many Republicans are afraid to fight."

Several big GOP guns from the Senate, namely, Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah will headline the "Exempt America from Obamacare" event.

This could lead to a major battle to defund the law, leading to a government shutdown over Obamacare, which even some Republicans say is fraught with political risks.
