Obama Stops in Seneca Falls, Presents Copy of Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

Andrew Harrer-Pool/Getty Images(SENECA FALLS, N.Y.) -- Ahead of Women’s Equality Day on Monday, President Obama made an unannounced stop on his bus tour in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Thursday at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park Visitor Center.

Obama presented the center with a copy of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 , the first bill he signed as president, and gave them a copy of the remarks he made during the signing ceremony. A message was written on the document he presented to the center.

"It's an honor to visit Seneca Falls and recall the righteous struggle that found expression here. I'm also proud to add an example of Lilly Ledbetter's leadership to your collection. Thanks for all you do to honor the character and perseverance of America's women,” the document read.

But it wasn’t all business at the visitors center. The president took some time for a shopping trip to buy souvenirs for his two daughters, including copies of the Declaration of Sentiments that was signed at the Women’s Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls in July of 1848, the White House said.
