Obama to Nominate Caroline Kennedy as US Ambassador to Japan

ABC/Rick Rowell(WASHINGTON) -- President Obama will nominate former first daughter Caroline Kennedy as U.S. Ambassador to Japan.

Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy, would be the first woman to serve in the role.

The president also announced Wednesday his plans to nominate Marcel Lettre as Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Robert Simon as Associate Director for Energy and Environment.

“These fine public servants both bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their new roles,” President Obama said in a statement. “Our nation will be well-served by these individuals, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come.”
