Dan Malloy's request for an emergency declaration in the state following this weekend's winter storm and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local response efforts, the White House said in a news release Sunday.

The approval authorizes the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate all disaster relief efforts for the local population and to provide assistance for required emergency measures. FEMA is authorized to fund 75 percent of these measures over a period of 48 hours.
