Rand Paul: Everything Is on the Table to Balance Budget

Photo Courtesy - Jamie Rhodes/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Senator-elect Rand Paul said everything is on the table in order to get the government’s spending under control and he is not ruling out blocking the debt limit to help do it.

“If you’re really serious that the deficit is a threat to our economy, you have to be a serious person and that does mean we will have to talk about things some people are afraid to talk about. I’ve been unafraid to talk about the fact that spending is way out of control and we have to do something about it,” he told ABC News.

“There’s an enormous amount of ways that no one has the guts to stand up and talk about cutting,” Paul added.

Paul defeated state attorney general Jack Conway and is one of the many Tea Party-backed candidates who helped the GOP take over the House and gain six seats in the Senate. When Paul was asked if he would consider cutting social security and Medicare to balance the budget, he said “that’s the wrong way of putting it.”

“What I would say is, let’s figure out how to fund them. I don’t think it’s appropriate that we borrow money from China to pay for our social security...People do have to recognize if they want low taxes or lower taxes they have to cut spending. In the past what we’ve always done is say here’s your tax break and here’s your pork barrel spending,” he said.
