(WASHINGTON) -- At President Obama’s behest, White House officials reached out to teen heartthrob Justin Bieber last week to help introduce him to 14-year-old Payton Wall, who joined the president at Ground Zero last week, White House officials tell ABC News.
Wall's father, an executive at Cantor Fitzgerald, was killed in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Before he died, he called home and told Payton: "Payton I love you and I will always be watching over you," a story the president shared with U.S. troops last Friday.
The president first learned about Payton’s story after she wrote to him and told him her story, as well as that she is a Bieber fan.
When he met her in New York City last week, the president told Payton that he knows Bieber and would introduce them, a senior White House official tells ABC News. The president asked his staff to reach out to Bieber's, with whom they had worked for last year's Easter Egg Roll.
According to TMZ, which first reported this story, "Bieber was super-excited about getting the call -- and told the White House he will DEFINITELY meet the girl when he returns to the U.S. and can get back to the East Coast."
