Looks Like a Democratic Win in Connecticut Governor's Race

Dan Malloy Photo Courtesy - WTNH Bridgeport(BRIDGEPORT, Conn.) -- The numbers have not been fully confirmed in the state's gubernatorial race, but after officials spent Thursday night counting ballots from Bridgeport, Connecticut, it looks like voters put Democrat Dan Malloy in the driver's seat with a wide enough margin to avoid an automatic recount.  As of Friday morning, Republican Tom Foley was not conceding the race.

The unofficial count in Bridgeport gives Malloy 17,800 votes, and Foley 4,075.

Add that to what has already been made official by the Secretary of the State's office, and that should give Dan Malloy an unofficial total of 566,178 votes to Tom Foley's 560,862, making Malloy Connecticut's first Democrat elected governor since William O'Neill.

The delay in tallying up the votes comes largely from what the Mayor of Bridgeport calls ineptitude on the part of those responsible for ordering ballots and running the vote counting process.  In some polling places, voters had to stay well past the regular poll-closing time on Tuesday to cast their ballots.
