US Agrees to Sell Attack Helicopters to Indonesia

Terry Moore/Stocktrek Images/Getty Images(JAKARTA, Indonesia) -- The United States has agreed to sell eight Apache attack helicopters to Indonesia along with radar, training and maintenance.

The Boeing-made helicopters make the first such sale of helicopters to the east Asian nation. The agreement was announced by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

The U.S. has recently begun to build a stronger presence in Asia in order to face off against the advances made by China. The agreement with Indonesia comes just three years after the last of a series of restriction on training Indonesian military were dropped, reports the Wall Street Journal.
