Mother of Malnourished Boy Charged with Neglect

(RENO, Nev.) -- Police arrested a 26-year-old Reno mother Monday on allegations she starved her 5-month-old son.

Shauna Malo is charged with suspicion of child neglect after authorities were alerted to Renown Regional Medical Center where an infant was being treated for malnourishment. Police say the child was brought to the hospital by a relative of the suspect and told investigators she was instructed by Malo to drop her son off because her husband was being sought by authorities.

No details were provided concerning 32-year-old Myles Malo, but police say they are seeking out the missing husband for questioning.

Police also say they are investigating the relative of Shauna Malo due to inconsistencies with the information she provided to detectives.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the child.

Nevada Casino Revenue Dropped 6 Percent in August

(RENO, Nev.) -- Nevada gaming revenues dropped over six percent in August, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. The drop effectively ends the state's three month growth streak, and gave casinos their worst drop since February.

Nevada casinos brought in a total of $886.9 million in August. In August 2010, state casinos collected $944.5 million, the newspaper reports.

Washoe County casino revenues dropped by close to 10 percent.

Reward Offered in Stolen Jewelry Case

(RENO, Nev.) -- A reward is being offered for information in connection with a jewelry heist in Reno over the weekend.

Over $250,000 in jewelry was reportedly stolen from Casa Madai Jewelry in the 4100 block of Sutro Street sometime Friday night, and now store officials say they are offering a personal reward of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) and/or the recovery of the stolen merchandise, reports the Reno Gazette Journal. A $1,000 reward is also being offered by the Secret Witness program.

Anyone with information regarding he case is asked to contact police at 334-2133.

Teen Hospitalized after Falling off Back of Jeep

(RENO, Nev.) --  A teenage boy is being treated for serious head trauma after falling from the running board of a Jeep outside a Walmart in Reno Sunday night, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Police say the incident occurred around 8 p.m. when authorities were alerted to a person suffering from a seizure in the parking lot of a Walmart located on Kietzke Lane. According to investigators, the accident happened when the 14-year-old boy's friend pretended to drive away and the teen jumped on the back of the Jeep, attempting to hold on to the roof while situated on the vehicle's back panel. The victim then lost his grip and hit his head on the pavement, police said.

The case remains under investigation.

Reno Police Investigate Weekend Jewelry Heist

(RENO, Nev.) -- Reno Police are investigating a jewelry heist that took place on Saturday.

More than $200,000 in jewelry was taken from Casa Madai Jewelry on Sutro Street.

Police arrived on the scene at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday after reports of a burglar stealing cash, jewelry and blocks of gold.

Washoe County Forensics is teaming with investigators.

Anyone with information on the heist is asked to call Reno Police at 334-2133.
