Gunman Takes His Own Life After Killing Three and Injuring Nine

(CARSON CITY, Nev.) -- Three people are dead after a gunman opened fire at a Carson City, Nev., IHOP restaurant Tuesday morning. The gunman also wounded nine others before killing himself.

Chief Deputy Jack Freer said, "The suspect did die of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No shots were fired by law enforcement."

Police say the male shooter was seen running into the restaurant just before 9 a.m.

Police-Involved Shooting Leaves at Least Two Wounded

(RENO, Nev.) -- At least two people were reportedly wounded during a police-involved shooting in Reno on Monday night.

Police were reportedly called to a location on Ryland Street in the vicinity of Renown Regional Medical Center where they found one person shot, according to ABC's Reno affiliate, KOLO-TV. Officers also reportedly came into contact with a "person of interest" in the area, and that person was then shot by police, KOLO-TV reports.

The extent of the injuries suffered by the two individuals is unknown.

Sparks police has reportedly taken charge of the investigation to prevent a conflict of interest.

Nevada Agriculture Board Opposes Proposed Water Pipeline 

(CARSON CITY, Nev.) -- Pumping water from rural Nevada to Las Vegas may negatively impact agriculture says the Nevada Board of Agriculture.

The board sent a letter to the Bureau of Land Management in opposition to the Southern Nevada Water Authority's proposed 306-mile pipeline. The Las Vegas Sun reports that the BLM will hold public hearings on the issue until October before they issue a report while the state engineer will begin hearings on September 26.

Record Crowds to Attend Nevada Destinations over Labor Day

(RENO, Nev.) -- Surveys reveal that record crowds are anticipated to flock to popular Northern Nevada destinations over Labor Day weekend.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Burning Man has sold out for the first time with 50,000 participants from over 35 countries scheduled to attend.

The 23rd annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off in Sparks is expected to draw record crowds.  Nearly 280,000 pounds of ribs have been ordered in preparation for the event.

More than 8,000 passengers are anticipated to swell the  Reno-Tahoe International Airport toward the end of the holiday weekend, airport spokeswoman Heidi Jared said.

Governor Sandoval: Be Prepared for Emergencies

(CARSON CITY, Nev.) -- Governor Brian Sandoval has declared September Preparedness Month in Nevada, and is urging residents to be ready to deal with emergencies that may arise.

"Today, I signed a proclamation to call upon all Nevadans to prepare for emergencies and to engage in volunteering and shape a culture of service and citizenship," Governor Sandoval said in a statement. "This year is also the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11. Americans came together on that day and so I believe we can now come together again to prepare."

The proclamation encourages reisdents to get an emergency supply kit and to have a family plan ready in the event of an emergency.
