Alleged Car Repair Scammers Arrested

(RENO, Nev.) -- Two men were detained on Tuesday after allegedly scamming a woman by pretending to be car repair specialists, according to police.

Officers responded to what initially was reported as a vehicle burglary in a shopping center parking lot in the area of McCarran and Smithridge on Tuesday afternoon.

When they arrived, however, they found that two men were in the middle of scamming a woman into paying for “repairs” they had done to her vehicle. These repairs consisted merely of duct tape and black paint, and the scammers were charging her over $100.

One of the two suspects was wanted on a fraud warrant in California with a bail of $250,000.

Reno Police warned residents to watch out for scams like this, saying that they are common. The release noted that “reputable car repair specialists do not contact people in parking lots at random.”
