Reno Police Identify Man Killed in Trash Compactor

(RENO, Nev.) -- Reno police have identified the man who fled authorities and was later found dead in a trash compactor on Wednesday, The Reno Gazette-Journal reports.

Reno Municipal Court marshals spotted 37-year-old Rodney L. Wright Jr. about 11 a.m. on Wednesday and believed he may have be wanted for misdemeanor arrest warrants, according to police. Wright fled on his bicycle and then ran from officers after crashing his bike. Marshals halted the search after losing sight of him, but an employee of the Truckee River Lodge found Wright in the trash compactor about 11:24 a.m. and told police. Officials believe he entered the trash chute and slid down into the compactor, which crushed him and caused severe injuries. Police said officers immediately tried life-saving efforts. An ambulance then took Wright to a hospital where he was declared dead.

As it turned out, Wright was not wanted for misdemeanor arrest warrants, but police said he did have felony arrest warrants.
