Study: Gun Suicides Top Car Crash Deaths in Nevada
(RENO, Nev.) -- Nevada was the only state in the nation where more deaths were attributed to suicides with guns than to traffic crashes, according to a recently released Violence Policy Center study that used data from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Reno Gazette Journal reports that in 2009 — the year for which the most recent information is available —406 people were killed by guns in Nevada. Of that total, 295 of them were suicides, according to the CDC information.
There were five times as many suicides by guns as homicides in 2009, the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
