Salt Lake Detectives Announce Arrest in 1997 Cold Case Murder

(SALT LAKE CITY) -- Investigators announced Tuesday an arrest has been made in connection with a 1997 cold case murder.

Officials say 59-year-old Alana Lee Marx was arrested by Salt Lake City Police Department detectives in Hawaii Monday for the murder of Ward Woolverton. Police say Woolverton was found dead near 1005 South and 300 West in Salt Lake City on March 20, 1997, suffering from blunt force trauma to the head.

Authorities say they were able to link Marx to the murder through DNA and fingerprint evidence discovered in 2010, which places Marx at the scene of the crime based on a bloodied shirt containing his DNA. The two men were staying together at a Salt Lake City homeless shelter at the time, police said.

Marx, who has been charged with first-degree murder in Woolverton's death, is being held on $1 million bail.

Officials say the woman, who allegedly sent lingerie-clad pictures of the teen to a man known only as "Don," pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 5.

Truck Carrying Beehives Crashes on I-5, Spills 25 Million Bees

(ST. GEORGE, Utah) -- A semi truck carrying 460 beehives rolled over on Interstate 15 in southern Utah on Sunday, spilling its contents and forcing the closure of southbound lanes near St. George, ABC News Salt Lake City affiliate KTVX-TV reports.

The driver was transported to an area hospital with bee stings, as were a police officer and others responding to the crash, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

The 25 million escaped bees prevented crews from moving the truck and caused miles of traffic on the interstate.

No other cars were involved in the accident, although one vehicle caught fire after rear-ending a semi truck in the slowdown.

The cause of the crash was unknown.
