Salt Lake City to Host E-Waste Events

(SALT LAKE CITY) -- Salt Lake City will hold a series of events, sponsored by Samsung to allow residents to recycle potentially toxic electronic waste.

Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes computers, televisions, cell phones, printers, scanners, cameras and more. Components from many of these devices may contain chemicals such as lead and mercury, which can leak into groundwater if not properly recycled, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the events will take place once each month between May and August, with the first taking place on Saturday May 11 at Smith's Marketplace at 455 S. 500 East.

Debbie Lyons, Salt Lake City's resource recovery manager told the Tribune that the city expects to collect 10,000 pounds of e-waste at each event.
